Random Updates

Okay, so I haven’t written anything on here in a while, so I’m going to give a rundown on pretty much everything that’s been going on that I can think of… Are you Ready?!?

Okay, so we got a new truck a while ago, which is really cool. It’s a black 96 Chevy K1500 with a 4″ lift, leather, and it’s an extended cab, so we can actually all fit in it to go somewhere. And our four-wheeler fits in the back of it, too.

We (and by ‘we’ I mean ‘I’) got a motorcycle 2 days ago. It’s a 73 Honda XL175. It’s a really cool little bike that’s just my size and I can now get enough riding in to actually be ready for my bike license test later this spring. I’ll be putting pictures on myspace and facebook probably tomorrow, since it’s a little dark out to get any decent pictures tonight. We were supposed to be going out for a ride tomorrow, but stuff has come up. I’m definitely going to go around the block a few times with it, tho.

I’m still planning on getting my braces in June, as long as everything goes alright at my next dentist appointment, which it should. I haven’t chosen an orthodontist yet, I’m going to have a consult with each of the two in town when my dentist gives the ok for me to proceed. I’m really excited about that.

Another thing I’m going to finally be able to do this summer is getting my Fiero shipped out here. We’re planning on doing it in May, while we’re in Maine. I’m hoping to arrange it so it’ll get picked up by the moving company (I’m still deciding between 2 of them right now) just a few days before the end of our trip, that way I’ll be there to see it onto the truck. Then we’ll go home and a few days after that it should get here, and I’ll be there to see it off of the truck. The great thing is the quotes I got this time are about the same as the ones we got almost 3 years ago. I was afraid they would’ve gone up a lot in that amount of time.

Summer’s still as cute as ever. She now answers most questions with either ‘No’, ‘Mmmhmm’, or ‘Um…. Hmmm’. She also likes to say “oh, I get it!” when you tell her something. Of course, being a typical 2 year old she gets into everything she’s not supposed to. Oh, and she reach our doorknobs now well enough to open them, so that adds to the fun. Luckily she’s just a ball of energy and usually doesn’t really act up. She can explain herself quite well most of the time, so we rarely have meltdowns… unless she’s really tired.

Well, it’s bath time (for Summer, not me) so I’ve got to go for now.

Riding Imogene Pass.

On July 13 I got to ride (finally) Imogene (I-ma-JEAN) Pass out of Ouray (yur-AY) with Miah.

We recently got a Honda Rincon 4wheeler that had taken a little ride down a river and was “totaled”. With his great discount on parts and the fact that we didn’t have to pay one of those “professional mechanic” types to fix it (ha ha) we now have a $5000 Rincon for about $1500. YAY :)

So I have officially ridden on Imogene Pass, which I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Miah’s done it a bunch of times on his XR but this was the first time I had ever gone.

It was so much fun. I got all wet going over the water crossings, got to explore a little off the trail, met some cool people, even hauled a muffler to Telluride for a guy after it fell off his dirtbike on the side of the trail.

The views were amazing, even before you get to the actual pass. It was about 80 or 85 degrees when we left Ouray. When we got to the top of the pass it was probably about 40. It was so nice. It would have been a little nicer if i was wearing more than a tank top. Miah’s Camelback leaked a whole bunch of water into my helmet bag (helmet, gloves, goggles, jersey) two days or so before the ride and we didn’t notice it until we got to the parking lot for the pass. I washed my jersey in the fresh mountain stream by the parking lot and put it on the front rack to dry, but it didn’t dry very quickly and still smelled a bit, so i opted out of wearing it.

The top of Imogene Pass is 13,114 feet, which is pretty high… and close to the sun. So we both lathered up with sunscreen before we hit the trail. I missed a spot. I didn’t even get much of a tan anywhere, except on my chest. I thought that I got everywhere, but when we got home that night I had a bright red sunburn on the front of my neck and chest with a pale smear in it. I guess I only had a little lotion on my hand when I did that part. It was pretty funny. It’s pretty much faded now, though.

Our whole trip took about 6 hours or so, including all of our rest stops, visits, and exploring. We went all the way from Ouray to Telluride and back. It was the most fun I’ve had in a long time, definately this summer. I can’t wait to do another pass. Maybe Engineer next time. Who knows.

So, anyway. I had a ton of fun out there riding and if you’re in Colorado, in the Ouray or Telluride area, take the ride. It’s doable in anything that’s 4 wheel drive (lower geared is better) with a short wheel base and good ground clearance. We also saw people hiking, running (ha ha ha), bicycling (sketchy), and of course lots of four wheelers and dirtbikes.

Oh, and a word of advice to anyone that’s never done pass riding – Uphill has the right of way. Period. If you’re coming down a hill and meet someone, get out of their way unless they wave you down.
