Issues

Just wanted to post a quick update for anyone interested. A couple months ago my niece Jenn came out here from Utah to spend the summer with Randy and Donna. You know, figure some stuff out, work, chill, whatever. Then she was going to stay for a semester of school (her mom decided this) so there was a bunch of what are we going to do and where am i going. no big deal. then donna and jenn went to utah this past weekend and donna got temporary custody so jenn could get her license out here… since she’s staying for school and all. There was an incident when they were there – there was alot of yelling, stuff was said that shouldn’t have been said, whatever. Then this morning no one can get a hold of jenn and donna and I fly up to the house to make sure she’s okay, cuz we’re kinda worried sick after calling and texting for an hour or so. She’s gone. just then we find out that her mom came this morning and got her. no note, no call to say she left, nothing. Just gone. her mom texted miah to say that she took her… about 3 hours after they left, just about the time we got to the house to see if she was still alive… not exagerating on that one either.. there was a lot of crying and a lot more yelling. …sooooo life’s pretty interesting.

Maine ‘09 Vacation

Well, it’s been a fairly eventful first week in Maine. We had a good trip out here, no delays, no incidents. Miah, Summer, Donna and I left Montrose Saturday afternoon to head to Utah. We spent the night at my sister-in-law Hope’s house and got up at 5am to catch our plane to Chicago and then to Portland. Summer really liked riding on the airplane. She got a little scared when we landed because she didn’t know what was goin100_3524g on, but we explained it to her and she was fine again. She slept almost all the way through the second plane ride out, which was good, cuz she was REALLY tired. We got to Portland at around 5. My Mom and Dad met us at the jetport and we stopped at Dunkin Donuts on the way up to Dover, of course. Mmmmm…. Munchkins!

In the morning Meg had a doctor appointment and she was going to come over to visit before she went back to work. Well, she didn’t make it to the house. I woke up at 9am to Donna knocking on our bedroom door saying that Meg was in the hospital having the baby. 100_3599Evidentially she had been in light labor for quite a while and didn’t know it. I couldn’t believe it! I told her to wait for me, but I didn’t think she would take me that seriously. ha ha. We got to the hospital at about 9:30 and a short 7 hours and 40 minutes later Alexis Leia Young was born.  7lbs 6oz 20 inches long. She’s ALMOST as cute as Summer was.

Tuesday morning Miah and I went to Orrington to visit his buddy, 100_4289-2 Warren. He’s got his own bike shop (<—Kelly’s Sport Shop)and he’s Canadian, so he’s a pretty cool guy. We hung out at his shop for a while and then we all went out to lunch at Ruby Tuesday, it was quite fun. Monday Miah went back again to pick up one of Warren’s bikes that he was nice enough to let us borrow for the week. I went over to Webber when we got back and got to see some of my old friends from work. It was nice to get back in touch after being away for so long.

Wednesday night Summer was very, very snuggly. And then she was very, very warm. Somewhere along the way she caught a little bug. She had a fever for about 4 days. After the 3rd day or so she 100_3784 started to have a cough, too. The fever broke the morning I took her to the doctor but we went anyway to make sure nothing more was going on – she had a little fluid behind her ears, but nothing much. By the time day 7 came around she was back to her normal wildness.

On Thursday we got a bunch of lobster and some scallops for Miah’s birthday. Summer loved that. She liked seeing them moving around and being able to touch them. Luckily she didn’t seem to mind it when we cracked them open to eat them either. We all really enjoyed our little mini seafood feast.

Tuesday Miah took me to Greenville on the bike he borrowed from 100_4243Warren. We went out to lunch at Kelly’s Landing down by the water in Greenville Junction. (The fried clams were awesome. After lunch we decided to go over to Currier’s Flight Service and take a plane tour of Moosehead Lake – something we never did while we lived in Maine. It was really cool. We got to see Mt. Kinneo, Beaver Cove, Sandy Cove and a few other places that are pretty cool, especially from the air.

Miah and I got to go out to Bangor for our anniversary on Thursday. It was nice to get out for a while, do some stuff we used to do all the time. We went to Bullmoose Music and wandered around the mall for a while. Also went to Bangor and Brewer Goodwills! Yay! We went out to eat at Longhorn Steakhouse. That was REALLY good. They have awesome ribs there and the sweet potatoes were some of the best I’ve ever had… and I love sweet potatoes.

Friday was pretty busy for everybody. Donna and Mom went to Bangor shopping with Summer for most of the day. Miah and Dad took a couple canoes out to Brans Mills and went fishing. I worked on packing up my car so it would be ready to get picked up…. eventually. I managed to get a hold of my cousin, Josie and we went out to ice cream and hung out for a while. Later on, after 100_4374 everybody got back Miah and I took Summer to the playground in Guilford to meet up with our friend Crystal and her two kids. It was a lot of fun. We got to hang out for a while and Summer and Brianna, Crystal’s oldest, ran around and played.

Then it came time for our visit to be over. 100_4447 Meg and Josh came over Saturday morning with Kelsey and Alexis to say goodbye. We got some really cute pictures of the three girls together. Mom, Dad, Miah, Donna, Summer and I all made the trip to Portland. We 100_4533 ate some lunch and headed to the airport to catch out flight out. We said our goodbyes and headed to check in. Good thing we got there early – it took about half an hour for them to issue us NEW ticket numbers because Orbitz messed up and never ACTUALLY gave us ticket numbers for the flight home. After that episode it was a nice uneventful trip home. I have found my favorite airport that I’ve been to. The Detroit airport is a very cool place. They have a tunnel between the concourses with music and lights that pulse and change color, a giant jumping fountain and the train runs above the hallways. 100_4564 100_4576

We spent the night at Hope’s house again and headed home Sunday morning.

It was a great vacation but it’s always nice to get home again.

Oh, and my Fiero has finally been picked up and is on its way out here right now!

Maine trip’s coming right up

I’m getting pretty excited for the Maine trip on the 10th. 2 weeks of no work, no customers, no schedules… it’s going to be great. Meg’s due on the 16th, which is right in the middle of our trip, I can’t wait to meet Alexis when she makes her debut!

I’m going to be seeing a lot of old friends while we’re there, visiting my old work, hopefully borrowing a bike from Miah’s friend, Warren, who has his own bike shop. We’ll be going to Bangor at least a couple times, and we’re planning on going to Funtown for a day. Hopefully it’ll be warm enough while we’re there.

Summer’s going to have a blast hanging out with both her Grammys for 2 weeks. I hope she warm up to my Dad a little faster than she did last time they were out here. She’s not very good around men that she’s not used to. This will be her first airplane ride. She thinks it’ll be fun and I hope she’s right. Grammy K. made Summer her very own backpack to bring with her. We’ll put her favorite toys and books in it, and some snacks to hold her over on the plane. We only have one layover on the way out, and it’s not a very long one. I’m not sure if that’s going to be really good or really bad. It might be a nice little break, but then again, it might just be an interruption to her fun plane ride.

Well, Summer wants to go outside and play now (since it’s almost 70… already… at 9:30 in the morning. So we’re going to go play in the dirt that Randy just tilled up for me for my new flower garden. YAY! :D

I couldn’t put up a new post without putting this up – 100_3328

Spring is arriving!

Let’s see… So much has been happening lately, although ‘so much’ around here isn’t that much.

Summer is loving the warm weather that we’re finally getting around here. She spent most of the day yesterday outside. Donna took her over to our friend Tammy’s house to play for a while. She petted the chicks, played with the chickens, fed the horses, picked up sticks in the yard, played in the hay pile, had a picnic. I’m tired just from writing all of that. She had a blast over there. Then she had a bath and a REALLY good nap. Today we went outside and played with the dogs for a while, filled up the bird feeder, moved some rocks. Now she’s sleeping. :) It’d be REALLY nice out if it weren’t for the spring wind around here.

In a couple days Donna’s going to Utah to pick up Kristy, her second oldest granddaughter. She’ll be here for about a week. We’re planning on going over to Tammy’s next thursday since Garry, Tammy’s husband has the day off and Randy should be getting the day off too. It’s going to be a big event. I’m really hoping we can fit in a little horseback riding, too. I really want to take Summer on her first little ride… with lots of pictures, of course. She loves the horses and is completely not afraid of them.

I’m really getting excited for this summer. I’ve just signed the contract with 4 Corners Transport to get my Fiero shipped here. The price is actually about $30 LESS than it was 2 months ago, which is great, every little bit helps. Now, as long as nothing goes horribly awry, like not being able to find a truck willing to go to Maine, I’ll FINALLY have my Fiero out here right around May 27th or so. I have many plans for this summer, too. In August there’s a Fiero rally/ car show in Gunnison, which is only an hour away and there’s a car show here in town in July that’s always really fun to go to and will be even better once I have my car out here to take. I will have an extra week of vacation left for this summer and I think I’m going to take that for the Gunnison show.

Another exciting this this summer… my braces!!! I can’t WAIT for my dentist appointment in June. Then I’ll be able to do my consults and get started!!!!! I have 2 orthodontists to choose from here in town, don’t know which one I’m going to end up using yet. They both do really good work.

Anyway, I’ve gotta get outside and do a little more in my garden before Summer wakes up from her nap. So that’s all for now. My next post will hopefully be very soon saying that I have a truck assigned for my Fiero!

Random Updates

Okay, so I haven’t written anything on here in a while, so I’m going to give a rundown on pretty much everything that’s been going on that I can think of… Are you Ready?!?

Okay, so we got a new truck a while ago, which is really cool. It’s a black 96 Chevy K1500 with a 4″ lift, leather, and it’s an extended cab, so we can actually all fit in it to go somewhere. And our four-wheeler fits in the back of it, too.

We (and by ‘we’ I mean ‘I’) got a motorcycle 2 days ago. It’s a 73 Honda XL175. It’s a really cool little bike that’s just my size and I can now get enough riding in to actually be ready for my bike license test later this spring. I’ll be putting pictures on myspace and facebook probably tomorrow, since it’s a little dark out to get any decent pictures tonight. We were supposed to be going out for a ride tomorrow, but stuff has come up. I’m definitely going to go around the block a few times with it, tho.

I’m still planning on getting my braces in June, as long as everything goes alright at my next dentist appointment, which it should. I haven’t chosen an orthodontist yet, I’m going to have a consult with each of the two in town when my dentist gives the ok for me to proceed. I’m really excited about that.

Another thing I’m going to finally be able to do this summer is getting my Fiero shipped out here. We’re planning on doing it in May, while we’re in Maine. I’m hoping to arrange it so it’ll get picked up by the moving company (I’m still deciding between 2 of them right now) just a few days before the end of our trip, that way I’ll be there to see it onto the truck. Then we’ll go home and a few days after that it should get here, and I’ll be there to see it off of the truck. The great thing is the quotes I got this time are about the same as the ones we got almost 3 years ago. I was afraid they would’ve gone up a lot in that amount of time.

Summer’s still as cute as ever. She now answers most questions with either ‘No’, ‘Mmmhmm’, or ‘Um…. Hmmm’. She also likes to say “oh, I get it!” when you tell her something. Of course, being a typical 2 year old she gets into everything she’s not supposed to. Oh, and she reach our doorknobs now well enough to open them, so that adds to the fun. Luckily she’s just a ball of energy and usually doesn’t really act up. She can explain herself quite well most of the time, so we rarely have meltdowns… unless she’s really tired.

Well, it’s bath time (for Summer, not me) so I’ve got to go for now.

Life with a 2 year old.

It’s official, I have a 2 year old. Okay, it’s been official for a few weeks now. I still can’t believe Summer’s TWO already! She’s growing up so fast. She’s speaking in 4-5 word sentances on a regular basis and even says ‘thank you’ all on her own. She does need a little prompting on the ‘please’ part, but hey, she’s 2! Summer really loves being outside, seeing animals and playing in the snow (not that we have much left right now). She pretends a lot but she thinks it’s really funny when grown-ups do. She likes to feed her baby and all of her toy animals, too. We’ve finally taken away her bottle. She’s doing very well with it, although mornings are harder, and I’ve given in to her a couple times. We’ve had to put a latch on the fridge, too. Summer recently discovered that she’s strong enough to open the door. She likes to take the milk out and try to get it in her sippy cup. Amazingly we haven’t had any major spills. She’llonly tip it until she spills a little bit and then she’ll set it back down and run and get me. “Mommy, milk pweese”. She loves pickles, too, and “Ogurt”. She’s still obsessed with Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and is watching it right now. She LOVES Dora The Explorer.

Well, it’s getting late, so that’s all for this time.

I Am Awesome!

100_2798Okay, so that sounds a little pompous, but it’s true.
Here’s the story. Yesterday we bought a new truck. We finally got rid of our little yellow Nissan and got a really cool big black lifted truck. It’s great! The only thing is the place we bought it only had one key for it. Anyway, this morning Miah went out and started our NEW TRUCK (which isn’t actually new) and came back inside to finish getting ready for work. He came back in the bedroom a few minutes later, where Summer and I were snoozing, and informed me that the truck locked. He forgot that the truck has automatic locks, as this is the first vehicle we’ve ever had that locks itself after you start it.
So I got up and threw on a sweatshirt and my shoes and went outside to figure a way into the truck, since we don’t have a slim-jim. I figured out how to open the little back window, one of those that flips out about 1 1/2 inches. Then we just had to figure out how to unlock the thing from there. After about half an hour of trying different things to reach the unlock button or the window button (the truck is still running, by the way) with my whole arm in the window (yes, my arm actually fits in the window….. barely) I managed to get a curtain rod bent to just the right angle and got the button! I was so happy! And so was Miah. He was a little late for work, and my arm’s a little scraped up and sore, but I Am Awesome!

Workout update

Okay, so I wouldn’t have believed it if someone told me that 4 days of working out at home, jumping rope, stretching, crunches, and push-ups could make a big difference. It’s INCREDIBLE! I can crunch twice as far up with the same reps (actually, 20 more tonight), jump rope for more than twice as long (including tripping on the rope about 1/10th of the of when I started – HELLO coordination!). I actually did JUMPING JACKS tonight! I haven’t done jumping jacks since gym in high school! That was after the 120 crunches (40 obliques), 20 push ups and 5 minutes of jumping rope. I’ve felt so much better in the past 4 days than I have for a long time. Tomorrow I’m hoping to go for a run (just around the block) which I haven’t done in at least a year and a half. I can already feel my lung capacity increasing.

I can’ t wait until Wednesday, when I’m going to go get my gym membership. Hello, eliptical trainer! Well, it’s time for some peanut butter and toast and some more good ol’ H2O. Another thing I’m rather proud of myself for – I’m consciously eating more (especially carbs and protein), now that I’m working out.

Peace!

Working Out

Okay, so I recently decided that it’s high time for me to start getting back into shape. I used to be really active in high school, but I was also REALLY skinny. So my plan of attack: Eat, workout, eat again. Really what I want to do is get my endurance back up. As of 2 days ago I couldn’t even jump rope for 15 seconds straight. Okay, partially because I haven’t done it in forever and kept tripping over the rope, but mostly because I got out of breath so fast.

Wednesday I started working out at home. I bought a jump rope for cardio and am doing crunches and push ups and a lot of stretching. I’ve noticed a big difference already. I can do crunches with less effort, don’t get winded as easily, and I jumped rope for about 30 seconds today without stopping! I know, that sounds lame, but it’s twice what I could do 2 days ago.

I’ve made a deal with myself, if I can workout every day for a week, then on Wednesday I’m going to add myself to Miah’s gym membership. He goes to Snap Fitness, it’s a little crowded in there right now, but next month they’re moving to a 4,000 square foot space in the same plaza right by our house. The best part is they’re a 24 hour gym, so I can go after Summer goes to bed, or (if I get REALLY motivated) at 5am. I’m hoping to start running and biking this summer, but for now, I’m just glad I’m finally doing this.

Oh, and speaking of things I’m glad I’m doing, I should be getting my braces in June sometime. Finally!!

Christmas and New Year

100_2536Wow. So it’s been a while since the last time I wrote. We had a great Christmas here. Summer had a ton of fun opening and playing with all her new presents. We went over to Miah’s parents’ for the afternoon and opened more presents. Summer got a new sled, which she loves. Tony and Miah pulled her around 00056on it for about half an hour before I finally coaxed her out of it in trade for her getting to romp in the snow. We built a snowman… okay, I built a snowman, but only because she wanted me to. She helped me roll the snowballs across the yard and packed the cracks a little bit. Mostly she just liked throwing the snow. We had a great time, and, by the way, a REALLY good ham. I can’t decide what my favorite present was this year it’s really close between the FOUR seasons of Grey’s Anatomy that Miah got me or the big fluffy pink robe… that Miah got me. I think the robe wins. I hinted to him for about 3 weeks that I wanted a fluffy robe… he’d already bought it for me. He’s great! I’m pretty sure Summer has a favorite present – or at least the one that she gets the most use out of… her Dora the Explorer couch that folds out into a little bed. She pretty much refuses to sleep in her regular bed. A very close second is the pj set that Auntie Meggie got for her. It’s silky pants with flowers and a pink shirt. She’s probably slept in those just about every other night. Two nights in a row if she can get away with it. I say pj’s and she says flower pants. She takes after her Mom with the tactile obsession. Oh, I can’t forget the ‘Baby Alive’ that Donna got for her. She feeds it100_2756, sleeps next to it, puts it on the potty, she loves it. (not kidding, that picture was not staged!) We had a great New Years, too. We all chilled at home New Years eve instead of going to the usual crazy raging party that we go to every year. It was nice. After Summer went to bed, Miah and I watched Horton Hears A Who. That was SUCH a funny movie! I was definately asleep by midnight. Now 100_2728THAT is a good start to a new year! New Years day was pretty mellow, too. We sat at home in the morning and Summer and Miah played Legos. Then we went up to his parents’ house to hang out (and work on Tony’s car). All in all, it was a pretty good end of the year for us.
